untitled tadaai wip fic pt 1

If Tadashi had to surmise the events that happened throughout his life up until now, he would describe it as if being on a rollercoaster with no end in sight. Of course, being on a rollercoaster one would assume that there would be all sorts of twists, turns, bumps, and loops to go through and experience. Each experience unique and different from the last, with the designs never repeating to keep the rider in suspense at all times. But even knowing this, it still didn’t make the events that transpired less surprising when he actually had to live them out in real life. The one good thing about getting on a rollercoaster is knowing that there’s an end in sight. That you can be expected to get off of the ride within five to ten minutes. However, this wasn’t a ride he could get out of, nor was it something he could walk away from— this is his life after all. He can’t just check out and be done with it. Especially if he has a little one to take care of.

Also it’s not like he was kept in suspense at all times. He did have some smooth riding every now and then, but, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s go back to the start of this ride.

Tadashi had a simple life. He was born to a plain family by societies standards. Omega and beta family units were about just as common now a days then they used to be. Anyways— he lived with them in a tiny little villa adjacent to the Shindou estate. His parents both worked for the Shindou’s, his mother a housemaid, and his father a gardener. He knew at a young age that there were people destined for greatness, but he also understood that he wouldn’t be one of them, and he was fine with that. The only thing he really took away from his childhood was to keep his head down and to do as he was told if he wanted to keep afloat in this dog eat dog world. And he did just that, or well, he tried to for the most part.

He was curious, well mannered, and tried to help out wherever he could the moment he became able to do small tasks around the estate. But he was also… well, a child. Children are always curious about their surroundings. Always questioning things with a hunger to grow. So when he was told that there was someone around his age at the estate he was ecstatic. Not that he hated being in the company of the older servants, but, he never had anyone who was his own age to play with. He was allowed to play outside so long as his chores were done, and that he kept out of the way of the other servants who were working. But anytime he asked if he could have someone to play with he was always met with the same excuses. Either it was because they were too busy or too old.

He had actually discovered that there was another child who lived at the estate by accident. He had overheard the maids talking about a child when he was helping his mother collect the Shindou’s laundry for washing. But the moment he put it together, he wanted to know where they were and if they could maybe be his playtime buddy.

He was shot down instantly the question left his mouth with a forlorn smile from his mother.

“I’m sorry sweetie” she would say every time he questioned her, or pestered her about it, which was a growing occurrence if he were being honest. “But you can’t play with this one.” She would then change the topic or offer to play with him instead. He would never turn down her offers, but he would also keep the nugget of information stored away for later use.

It wasn’t until he was a couple of years older that he actually discovered said child she was talking about. He was helping his dad out with something in the garden, when he discovered the kid. Well, I guess the more appropriate word here would be when he had heard them. He had heard something that… sounded an awful lot like sniffling, or like someone was attempting to cover up the fact that they were crying? And after being the victim of too many falls on a skateboard he knew what that sounded like. Distracted, he wandered away from his father and over to where he felt the noise was coming from, and that’s when he stumbled across him.

The kid who would manage to turn his whole life, his whole being upside down later on.

The boy was too absorbed in his own world to realize that he had a guest in his presence, so when he does notice Tadashi he startles instantly. Arms wrapping tightly, protectively, around his knees. He looks like a mouse cornered by a tomcat who has been starved for weeks. (And if Tadashi were being honest, he was kind of starved for interaction with someone who was around his age, so he’s trying to not seem to eager. But first things first!)

“I’m sorry” he murmurs sheepishly, feeling his face heat up slightly as he extends his arm out to the boy before him. “Are you… okay?”

The boy blinks as he looks up with his tremendously huge red ruby eyes. He nods his head and Tadashi notes the way his hair swishes about. It’s such a pretty shade of blue, almost close enough to the shade of color that his favorite crayon is. The boy blinks up at him and his proffered hand in confusion but remains silent for the most part. Tadashi offers him another smile before taking the other’s hand into his and helps him to his feet.

Or at least attempts to before the kid finally realizes what it was he was offering in the first place.

Tadashi licks his lips nervously once the other is on his feet. “I’m Tadashi, I live here with my parents.”

The boy nods in some understanding, like something clicks into place. “My name is Ainosuke.” He says softly, his hands falling to the side. “I live here with my dad, and aunties.”

Tadashi’s eyes widen in pure wonder as he looks around. He doesn’t recall there being a new family, but then again the estate was rather big. His parents lived in the quarters closest to the garden after all, but that doesn’t mean that the boy and his family could live elsewhere on the estate. “You do?!” He winces a little at the volume of his excitement. “Where? I live over there” he says as he points to the little villa closest to the garden.

“Oh I live over there.” The boy- no. Ainosuke says as he points behind him.

Pointing to exactly where the main estate is. Oh…. So…

Ah.

Well, that explains why his mother always looked so sad when she told him that he would never get to play with this mystery kid— this— Ainosuke. But before he can dwell on it any longe, a question interrupts his train of thought.

“Will I see you around, Tadashi?”

The question is so… it sounds so hopeful. Tadashi had wished and hoped that he would have a new friend to play with, so even though he knows that he shouldn’t… He regards the other curiously, before a smile overtakes his lips and nods his affirmation. “Yes.” It should be okay as long as they play in secret, right? No one would notice if they played in the garden, out of sight from prying eyes.

Ainosuke’s features had been schooled to a neutral look, but the moment Tadashi had agreed he is all smiles. The kind of smile that scrunches your eyes up and shows all of your teeth. The kind of smile that makes Tadashi’s heart feel all full and warm.

Little did he know that this smile would only seem to exist in their childhood.

❤ ❤ ❤

Tadashi didn’t really see Ainosuke (Ainosuke-sama, a small part of his brain chides) around much after his first run in with the other boy. In fact he was starting to think that he had imagined the whole thing up. A lonely boy craving a friend getting so desperate that he makes an imaginary friend, it doesn’t seem that far-fetched. So when he does run into the young master, he’s shocked. But like, pleasantly shocked? He feels that warm and fuzzy feeling wash over him.

Ainosuke had snuck to the back of the house, where he had first met Tadashi, and waited for the other with his hands clasped. He kind of stuck out like a sore thumb, but thankfully none of the other servants took notice. If they had he would definitely be ushered back inside to the main house as quickly as he seemed to appear. Tadashi didn’t even realize that he was there until he almost ran into the other as he was carrying a trash bag full of weeds and stems. If it weren’t for the fact that Ainosuke called out his name so happily he would have definitely ru him over.

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t able to get away until now.” He explains. It looks like he wants to say something else, but whatever it is dies on his tongue a couple of seconds later as he closes his mouth. Instead he opts to fiddle with his fingers.

“It’s okay!” Tadashi says as he adjusts his hold on the trash bag before offering Ainosuke a small smile. “I’m almost done, but after I take this out…” he pauses as he dares to ask the hard questions. “Would you… maybe want to play with me?”

Ainosuke blinks in surprise at the question. It almost looks like he had never been asked to play with others before. Which honestly sounds ridiculous in his mind, because he looks like such a fun kid to play with? Certainly he has lots of friends, right? But there he goes flashing one of those brilliant smiles that causes Tadashi’s heart to flutter again and out goes his train of thought.

“I!” He starts off eagerly, before pausing, “I would like that very much.” He says this a lot softer and quieter than previously.

And before Tadashi knows it, he has a little shadow trailing along behind him quietly. Once the trash is deposited Tadashi regards Ainosuke curiously before leading the other towards the pool that lies behind the garden. It had been empty for as long as Tadashi could remember and he could vaguely recall that the Shindou’s were planning on renovating it? But then something happened that halted those plans. Not that Tadashi minded since the pool made an excellent place to practice skating tricks. It also helped that the pool sort of became an afterthought after it had been emptied.

Ainosuke looks at Tadashi in confusion as he stares down at the empty pool. But before he can even voice any of the questions he might have had Tadashi takes his hand and drags him over to a particular rosebush. It doesn’t look any special, and doesn’t seem to be the main focal point as Tadashi gently shifts some of the flowers out of the way before reaching in.

Ainosuke definitely wasn’t expecting to see a board with… wheels? To be pulled out of the rosebush. But before he can question it (again) Tadashi brings a finger to his mouth and points to the edge of the pool. Ainosuke wanders over and takes a seat where Tadashi had pointed to and waits eagerly.

Tadashi walks over to the end of the pool, board with wheels in hand. He sets the board on the ground before placing one foot on it. He actually looks like he’s one second from slipping off of it and falling to his doom. But before Ainosuke could voice his discomfort Tadashi slips and falls.

Ainosuke shoots up, instantly worried, but before he can even get down into the empty pool to help his new friend out the other seems to whizz right on by completely unharmed. He looks like he’s one of those guys that stand on boards in the ocean as he rolls on by quickly towards the end of the pool. It almost looks like he’s going to run smack dab into the wall of the deep end, but before he can even clasp a hand over his mouth his new friend seems to be… going up the wall with the wheeled board contraption??

Ainosuke feels his hands drop to his side as he watches his friend in awe. A smile graces his lips as he watches the other turn his body and roll back down the wall of the deep end of the pool and slows to a stop in the middle of the empty pool. Before he knows it he’s jumping up and down in excitement, arms flailing around joyfully “That was really really really cool! You were like nyoom and fuuwooh!!”

It’s at that point when Tadashi turns to look at Ainosuke. He can’t help but smile at the well mannered boy speaking completely opposite of how he had been before. He can’t help but match the other’s smile this time around. “I can show you how to do this, if you want.” The face Ainosuke makes when he discovers that he can also learn is something Tadashi will treasure well into adulthood.

❤ ❤ ❤

It had been a couple of months since Tadashi began teaching Ainosuke how to skateboard. He couldn’t help the giggles that overtook him when he discovered that Ainosuke first referenced his skateboard as a wooden board with wheels. No, this is called a skateboard. Ainosuke took to his lessons like a fish in water. He ate up everything Tadashi had to offer. And their growing friendship started to bloom as well. Ainosuke snuck away as frequently as he could after dealing with his own tasks as well. He especially looked forward to skating after his… chats with his aunties.

He was so close from sneaking off before he ran into one of the servants who had informed him that his aunties wanted to see him. His stomach churned in anticipation as he began to wonder what it was they wanted to talk to him about. It’s not like he had failed any of his tests, and his teacher was really pleased with his progress on their current lesson. They had no reason to be upset at him this time around. He found himself fidgeting as he waited outside before being called in and instructed to take a seat.

He couldn’t place it, but for some reason he got the feeling that they were upset at him over something that wasn’t school related. Something he couldn’t figure out. (Something he’ll learn later that he was too young to figure out.) He bit his lip in order to stop the cry that so desperately wanted to warble out of his mouth as he felt one of his auntie’s hands smack against his outstretched arm. He had learned early on that making a noise would only spur them on even more.

“Remember Ainosuke-kun, we love you very much. We’re only doing this for your own good” was what they would always tell him whenever he had these…. impromptu meetings with them. He just… he just needed to endure this, and then afterwards he would get to skate with his friend, his Tadashi.

Unbeknownst to him tears had welled in his eyes as he stared down into his lap. His outstretched arms wavered as it all became too much. He just… he only needed to endure this for a little bit longer, and then it would all be over with until the next time. Endure endure endure, and then it would all be over with. He did his best to keep in any of the whines that so desperately wanted to escape. He knew first hand that that only made it worse. For some reason they were a lot more angrier this time around. Ainosuke couldn’t put his finger on the reason why, and he tried not to think about it more than he needed to. But once it was over he gave a polite bow. “Thank you for showing me your love” was all he was able to get out before his words cut out pathetically.

He closed the door a little too quickly, not wanting to face their wrath if they somehow got the wind for a second round. Usually he only had to suffer a second round if he spoke out of term to his father, or was disruptive in class and his teacher sent out an email to his father about it. It also happened when he got bad test grades. He tried his best to not get those. He was so lost in thought that he didn’t noticed Tadashi lingering in the background. He didn’t even notice his friends presence until the other was trying to drag him away and led him down a hallway he wasn’t familiar with.

Tadashi seemed like he was trying to figure out a very complicated math problem in his head, but remained silent for the most part. Something Ainosuke didn’t realize he was thankful for until he felt something wet and slimy press against the hot, stinging welts he had on his arms. Only then does he seem to stir out of the quiet trance he was in. He looked up at Tadashi, who returned it with an unreadable gaze for a couple of minutes before turning back to tending to his arms.

He looked like he wanted to ask something, but instead chose to glare as he went about his task of tending to Ainosuke’s arms. Something about that glare struck a chord within Ainosuke, he didn’t know why, but he preferred it when the other was smiling at him instead. He opened his mouth, but closed it, not really sure of himself or what he wanted to say. He breathes in and opens his mouth, a question ready on the tip of his tongue—

“Do you want to learn how to do an ollie?”

Ainosuke blinks at the abrupt question, but nods and offers Tadashi a small smile.

“I would like that very much, thank you.”

Ainosuke didn’t like talking to his aunties when they were upset with him, but days like this were always made better when he got to be with his friend Tadashi afterwards. He knew that he could endure anything if he was able to be with Tadashi afterwards.

Tadashi was in his last year of middle school when he learned about secondary genders, as they called it in school. He always knew of it, but it never really meant anything to him as he hadn’t presented yet. But everyone had to endure the awkward classes dedicated to secondary genders. It was embarrassing, but it was a part of life, as his health teacher would say. Pamphlets were passed out afterwards going over everything one should know about the three different genders in great detail. After dealing with the awkward lessons about it at school he asked his mother about it when he got home as he tended to his homework. She was shocked at the initial question at first, but laughed it away.

“I don’t think you have much to worry about, my sweet son” she said as she reached for a potato to cut. “To my knowledge we don’t have many alphas in mine and your father’s family lineage. I’m sure it would be a great issue if we did as I don’t think you’d be able to continue working for the Shindou’s.”

“What do you mean?” He asked, perplexed.

“Oh, sweetie you probably didn’t realize it yet since you still haven’t presented, but a majority of the people that work for the Shindou’s are omegas and betas.” She offered with a polite smile. “Besides most of the Shindou’s are alphas, with a few exceptions.” She added as an afterthought as she turned back to preparing their dinner.

Huh…. Tadashi supposes that that makes sense. Not that he understands the dynamics between alphas, betas, and omegas yet but he supposes that an omega and beta would be easier to work with than an alpha. Especially if an alpha were to ask another alpha, a servant, to do something, they might not want to—

“Tadashi, can you go get your father? Dinner is almost ready, and I’m sure he’s starved.”

Well, any other thought he had went out the window as he got up from the table to go fetch his father from the garden.

Of course the irony behind all of this falls on deaf ears when Tadashi presents as an alpha two years later. Earlier than what they had expected and planned for.

Both of his parents were panicked as they went to the doctor the Shindou family provided for their servants and families. It was tricky, but they could probably get away with it by giving Tadashi scent blockers and letting him take days off for his ruts if they said it was because of his “heat.” The Shindou family never really needed physician notes since it was all biological, and something no one could really help, except betas.

And so Tadashi Kikuchi, son to an omega and beta, who had presented as an alpha two years earlier than planned, would live his life as an omega. Tadashi Kikuchi who had a very pleasant demeanor. Who was very opposite of an alpha. He could make this work. He had to.
